The Procedure for Ear Reshaping

Ear reshaping (otoplasty) surgery usually takes between two and three hours to complete while the patient is under a general anaesthetic. It is a straightforward procedure which involves the experienced surgeon making small and discreet surgical incisions behind the ears and within the ears to ensure that there is no visible scarring as a result of the procedure. Otoplasty is most commonly performed on those people whose ears are prominent and who therefore want them setting closer to the head, reducing in size, or both. However, it can be used as a way of simply altering the shape or size too and this is done by removing the skin, reshaping the cartilage underneath and stitching the ears before bandaging the area.
